Clinical Massage
Clinical Massage
Clinical massage is highly effective in releasing muscular tension, reducing pain and breaking up fibrous tissue to relax the body and enhance soft tissue function.
Highly skilled touch and palpation is used to locate areas of stiffness, pain or tension and various techniques involving pressure, friction or stretching of the skin are then used to promote circulation, release tension and to stretch and realign muscle fibres.
Massage is often used to alleviate stress, aid relaxation, relieve pain and facilitate healing from injury. It also plays an important part in sports therapy in the treatment and prevention of injuries.
Massage of the skin and underlying tissues increases circulation of blood and lymph fluids, which increases oxygenation of the tissues and speeds up the removal of waste products.
Massage also stimulates skin receptors and the nervous system, triggering the release of ‘feel-good’ hormones, known as endorphins, that help us relax and ‘block’ pain signals.
Sports Massage
Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissues (such as muscles, ligaments, fascia and tendons) to prevent and treat soft tissue injuries. Sports massage incorporates advanced stretching techniques, deep friction, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques to remove adhesions, break up scar tissue, realign muscle fibers and correct muscle imbalances.
This type of massage, along with an appropriate rehabilitation programme, restores muscles to optimum working order, thus enhancing athletic and general body performance.
Deep Tissue Massage
Remedial / deep tissue massage is excellent for correcting dysfunctional muscles, caused by repetitive strain injuries, sports injuries, general muscular aches, stress, tension and poor posture.
This type of massage is highly effective in treating tight or short muscles in acute and chronic muscle problem cases. This massage uses deep pressure with slower strokes and positional release techniques to release tension and alleviate pain in the muscles, fascia and tendons.
Neuromuscular technique, friction and deep stroking are also incorporated in the treatment to help loosen muscle fibers, remove scar tissue, adhesions and fibrous tissue which might be present as a result of an injury or trauma.
